I feel called to continue to speak about the Capricorn/Aquarius framing as 2025 unfolds. My intuitive hit is to highlight the comparisons between our Pluto in Capricorn era (2008-2024) and our Pluto in Aquarius era (2025-2044). How this transit will bring a layer of perceptual clarity of the world around us. Describing the structural and systematic differences, as well as describing how we choose to show up within them relative to each phase.
I recently shared about shedding some of the Capricornian approach and models previously imposed upon us. Remember, there’s lots of beneficial contributions from Capricorn to carry. These things will still be around, even with the ushering of Pluto in Aquarius. It’s not a full-on Aquarian acquisition. There will be a lingering Capricornian undertow.
Here’s a motto to behold: Let it blend, before it may break. We have 20 years ahead to harness the value that this latest Plutonian era brings. Breathe into the shift from feeling bounded, whether from controllers or limiting beliefs, to feeling freer. There won’t be major whiplash, as Aquarius is a fixed sign. Trust that you won’t blow away with gusts of wind. The collective shift from earth to air may be jarring for some. Perhaps indicating a reliance on those external safeties and structures.
The Karmic Authority Is Within You
What would a blended phase look like for you? Is there more that you’d like to integrate? Capricornian karma may have given you some hard-hitting Saturnian lessons. It’s okay if there are some things you don’t wish to let go. Honor your inventory. If there were times it seemed you were hitting a brick wall, then the open clear pathways may feel too drastic for you at first. How do you get the balance right?
If you’re feeling done with that 16-year phase, note that the upcoming phase won’t be void of those adamant Saturnian aspects. Pluto in Aquarius will have elements of this. (And yes, even the dying mainstream media will still be around to project that stuff onto you - although with diminishing influence). Aquarius won’t necessarily look to destroy stubborn, overbearing ways of the past. It’ll simply out-perform and out-shine.
We can continue to name and share the alternative and complementary options that’ll be made available to us. Accessing internal authority will determine how the karma takes shape in each present day. Sure, you can listen to the external authorities, but you’re not meant to lead with that. You’ll decide for yourself what essentials you’ll acquire during our collective Aquarian shift.
Reclaiming Decentralization
The Pluto in Capricorn era accentuated using a centralized locus of control. It served you. It served me. It served many… until it didn’t. Until it was overused, misused, abused or corrupted. If you sift through the last 16 years of your life, you’ll find numerous examples of how external, centralized systems aided you. In addition, you could also name numerous instances when institutions failed to serve you or acted with minimal integrity.
The Pluto in Aquarius era will accentuate a decentralized locus of control. In simpler terms, it will accentuate the individual. This is not intended to imply individual in place of collective, or individual without collective. Rather this signifies leading with sovereign integrity first. To then extend outward and connect with what aligns around you. Not forced to fit into the structures provided outside yourself, rather finding kindred air currents to flow with contemporaneously.
This is a transit of self-empowerment. Aquarius will still crave community. But not in the sense of being a cog in someone else's wheel. Rather as a participant in the communal interconnectivity of sovereign beings, who are honoring their authentic selves. Contributing to greater wholes, while not losing one’s known integrity. A self-empowering way to project yourself into the world.
Of Responsibility and Liberation
An interesting juxtaposition to note about Capricorn and Aquarius is the Saturnian influence they share. In traditional astrology, they are both ruled by Saturn. Since its discovery, some astrology enthusiasts use Uranus as the ruling planet for Aquarius. For those who have a prominent placement of Aquarius in your natal chart, you’ll want to ask what resonates for you? Do you lean toward the ruler of your Aquarius to be Saturn (traditional) or Uranus (modern)?
I take both into consideration, while acknowledging the Uranian aspects that can be attributed to Aquarius. Uranus is primarily known for liberation, freedom and rebelliousness. This usually translates to what is noted as an Aquarians uniqueness - whether in the form of social eccentricity or dissidence within the status quo. Whether combining with or fleeing from the closely connected Saturnian influence, those harnessing Aquarian energy can be creative forces to reckon with.
From our mythological standpoint, Saturn and Uranus represent opposing forces of responsibility and liberation of the heavens. Uranus used the skies in a time “before time” (no limits on primal power). Saturn overthrew him and instated a more complex series of laws and regulations. They seem to represent very different understandings of the world. The responsibility of Saturn and the liberation of Uranus. So much more can be said about this, right? A tale as old as time.
Let’s leave it here for now. With this fitting representation of the changing of guard. The shifting of generations that we're currently experiencing with Pluto transiting from Capricorn to Aquarius. Maybe you’re not meant to skirt all of your responsibilities, sure … but is there room for some liberation?
