Earlier this month I took part in a men’s work retreat in Austin. Texas.
It was created and led by my friend and colleague Tyson Adams. In addition to being an IFS coach, Tyson leads men’s work courses and embodied leadership retreats. This retreat was an opportunity for us to participate in many of the embodiment practices around sexual healing and sexual alchemy for men.
It was cool seeing firsthand how quickly this retreat came together. This particular gathering wasn’t an open retreat; Tyson envisioned specific men within his inner network to come together for this installment of deep work. Within three months it manifested. A gathering of 17 men within a nurturing space to practice and share.
I met Tyson online in the spring of 2021 while participating in an online bookclub. He was delving headlong into providing sacred, safe containers for men to heal and alchemize through sexual transmutation. I was called to get further involved and by the following spring we began working together.
Things unfolded organically as we brought to fruition variations of the programs he created leading to Life Force. Since May 2022, he’s trusted me with assisting him with delivering his men’s sexual health programs. Whether behind the scenes or being present to engage in the containers provided, it’s been some of the most meaningful work I’ve ever done.
I have to say, it’s been really fun assisting another coach. Although I’m still a health coach too, I haven’t been doing one-on-one coaching with these current endeavors. Yet, there’s so much meaningful work to do. I’m really enjoying all that comes with maintaining a supportive role to allow these courses and containers to run smoothly. Fortunately, my health coaching background informs my tasks with these programs.
Since combining forces, we’ve interacted with hundreds of men. We’ve held 150+ Zoom calls. We’ve used chat groups and our online platform to support those who are ready to go deep and take that next step toward healing. We’ve brought our skills and compassion to the virtual space, and made it intimate and valuable.
For many, the past few years have been riddled with cogs in the wheels. For some, that’s putting it mildly. It’s during the most challenging times that perseverance and will shine through. What speaks to Life Force more than the phrase: “when there’s a will there’s a way.” I know I have strong will, and I’m glad I directed it toward this vision that Tyson continues to develop. I’m grateful to work with someone who continually puts action, determination and flow toward this greater vision to assist others. While infusing empathy and care.
This retreat was the first time we were in the same physical location. Which seems pretty wild considering how much shared quality time we’ve spent with all of these men online. The retreat included my first in-person meeting with some of the men who I’ve shared profound interactions over these last few years. So grateful for the ability to do this work online, which eventually lead to those in-person connections.
While maintaining Life Force’s online group, the Sexual Alchemy Leadership Intensive took shape. Tyson shared with us what our itinerary was going to be. Although the key first ingredient was to get ourselves rooted in our collective “why.” Why are we gathering?
Tyson shared: What would happen if men gathered and asked these 3 questions...
1.) What are the boys asking of us, as men, who are creating the nervous systems and the culture that they will inherit?
2.) What if we put sexuality at the front and center of men’s work and personal development, instead of leaving it at the door?
3.) How would life be different if men didn’t use their penis/sexuality as a means to 'feel better' but rather as a means to 'better feel'?
This is what we explored, and what we’re continuing to explore. I’m grateful to support and provide service to this unfolding.
If you know of any man who you feel might benefit from this, feel free to message me!
