In Nov 2024, Pluto finished its 16yr+ run through the sign of Capricorn. That’s a big chunk of time! Congrats to everyone for getting through it, ha. Surely, there were many ups and downs that we could highlight.
Some of us are keen to jump right into the new Pluto in Aquarius phase. While others may want to give some needed attention toward sorting through the challenges faced. Depending on your personal chart and astrological influences, our newly completed Pluto in Capricorn phase may not have been a smooth ride for you.
Let’s name it. Let’s shake it off. Let’s hold some space and integrate.
The progression of Pluto in Capricorn gradually felt like a vice tightening its grip. Toward the latter years of its run, it felt constricting and debilitating. Did you have a sense of that? What were the last few years like for you? Any unreleased burdens? Why carry the ghost of Capricorn like a phantom limb?
No Fault of the Stars
When we hear discussion around “Pluto in (chosen sign)” - it represents a collective era that we all go through together as humankind. For those born in this time period, this becomes their astrological generation. For the rest of us born prior to this generation, the “Pluto in…” phase maintains an important designation. It assists navigation of the thematic bearings for how our perceived world unfolds. Determining qualifiers for the setting of our world stage.
Like with any astrological representation, there are pros and cons for each sign and what it weaves into our collective experience. Capricorn has many positive qualities. At its best, it can get us in touch with earthbound guidance, design and order. Leaning into the practicality of how things work and how to get things done efficiently. Let’s not undervalue the prosperity and growth that comes with Capricorn.
Although my intention here is to shine light on some of the negative underpinnings that can occur having endured Pluto in Capricorn. Collectively cycling through our cardinal earth sign for this many years, we’re likely to see and feel some of the undesirable effects from prolonged Capricornian enactment. Like when desired guidance starts to feel too binding. Like when once helpful structures fostering flow and ease, slip toward suffocation and disempowerment.
Pluto facilitates transformation through the lens of the sign it’s transiting. If too much Capricornian structure gets cemented around the guideposts and pathways, then somethings gotta give. Do we blend into the woodwork, or do we chisel away bit by bit to reclaim our space? Or do we seek a wrecking ball to crumble and clear?
Loosening the Grip from the External
Hark, another Plutonian shift is upon us! Entering 2025, we’re experiencing Pluto in Aquarius. During the months leading up to this transit, there was a feeling of discomfort similar to that of a grip not wanting to let go. Sustaining structures for the sake of their own existence, rather than for the sake of those they serve. Integrous structures won’t hold back natural flow and transition, so allow imposed grips to loosen. Allow the letting go of what’s meant to pass.
What’s to come next won’t appear instantaneously. So, take your cosmic inventory. What is your process of holding space for things to come? What does that look like for you? How do you make room for the reconfiguration, without feeling compelled to latch onto what was just let go? This is the phantom limb, the ghost of Capricorn. Trust that whatever is meant to move with you to the next phase will transfer in a form that serves you. Trust it will fit into what’s shaping to be.
The promises of controllers of years past are meant to be forgotten. If the structures and institutions that once served you are meant to continue, then they will show up again if they’re sound and true. Even a beautiful Capricornian design can feel like a stranglehold if its purpose has run its course. You don’t need to hold onto it because it once worked. You must reassess at every new phase. Take the best from what worked and open yourself up to what you deem as continual natural improvements.
If an external imposition no longer serves you, can you move on from it? Who is telling you to stay there? Is that your own authentic voice? Or is there a lingering message on loop in need of reconsideration? This is the perfect time to ground yourself into the present day and gauge the alignment of your internal voice with your chosen external guidance.
Security and Safety from Within
You must draw upon compassion for your process. You’ll likely feel a bit lost without some of those structures. That’s ok. There are so many natural places to find your additional bearings. Remember, this isn’t a war on structure or fight against order. It’s a repositioning; a reconfiguration of what you feel stabilizes you with actual, genuine security.
It’s understood that our recent Capricornian phase may have provided some safety and security. Now the universal tilting asks how can you find safety and security from yourself, rather than from external controls. Your inner strength and the interplay of universal design.
If your experience of the latter years of Pluto in Capricorn included crossing boundaries and dysregulating your center, now is the perfect time to do something. This may involve getting rid of obligations or duties that are no longer meaningful to you. Or you may simply feel overworked or unfulfilled by the work you were doing, and you wish to change this. Whatever it is, you’re allowed to shift or change your commitments.
What’s resonating for you right now? Have you begun detangling yourself from previous obligations and unfulfilling circumstances? Can you carve out some space to explore this? Keep the ghost of Capricorn at bay. Don’t let it fill the space assigned for fulfilling your true desires. Set boundaries, step forward, stay direct. Notice the intuitive kernels of curiosity for the next phase.
